Raffaele Du Marteau

Raffaele is a fantasy figure painter from Fidenza in Italy. He has won an incredible 6 Golden Demon awards and he will be running a panel at DOTG (more details to follow). Here's a few words from him:

'Let me introduce myself My name is Raffaele and since I was a kid I have dabbled in colors and modeling The first topics were Humbrol colors, Airfix planes and Italeri toy soldiers, in the 90s I approached fantasy modeling with the fourth edition of Warhammer Fantasy Battle: acrylic colors and the concept of fantasy figurine that still accompanies me. All this led me to discover a world made of orcs, warriors, monsters, but above all other players and hobbyists who, like me, shared a passion for painting and modeling I went from painting armies to creating my own gaming tables to more professional painting, earning awards such as Golden demon etc. For about ten years my interest has also stumbled upon larger and somewhat different models, namely Gunpla, models that have brought me back a bit to the origins of my passion: military vehicles. (after all, a war robot is nothing more than a tank with legs and arms) The subjects change, but the passion is always the same, the support changes, the canvas but the enthusiasm to get involved remains. It can be a Marine, an elf, a chaos warrior, a tank or a futuristic robot: the colors, the techniques do not change, just as the desire to experiment and face new challenges does not change'

TR13

We're so excited to announce that he will be doing a workshop on "Mix Building" basics and "Giving Life to your Builds" where he will cover the basics of Posing and Photography. Here's a few words from him:

'My name is TJ. I’m known as TR13 Design; Been building Gunpla since I was 8–9 years old but only really focused on the hobby back in 2011. My first kit was an HG 1:144 Heavy Arms and this was the kit that really blew my mind in terms of its articulation and pose-ability. What really struck me was that I was expecting it to be an action figure at first! When I opened the box I immediately noticed that I would have to build it myself. The joy and the excitement I felt when I built it was amazing; I will never forget it. This was how it started, and every kit henceforth was filled with excitement and the drive to customise.

One of my best achievements is to represent the Philippines as part of an ASEAN team at Shizuoka Hobby Show a few years ago, I built a custom MG Strike and seeing other amazing builds there was purely a sight to behold, one I highly recommend going to if you have the chance. I've also done a workshop at Newtype BuildCon in San Francisco; which is something I will be covering topic wise at Day of the Gundam.

Gunpla and Plamo in general for me go hand in hand with my love for Mecha in other types of media, be it games, anime, or literature. Some of my initial builds were highly influenced by Armoured Core games. I took some aspects of Kawamori-san’s designs into some of my initial custom builds. From there, it just evolved into what you may have seen in my recent projects.

Xaerael Lockwood

Xaerael Lockwood is a talented fabricator and painter and will be doing 2 workshops. One based on specialised metallic finishes to your kits and another on how to integrate electronics into Gunpla. Here's a few words from Xae:

'When I was a child, a relative bought me a model of the Cutty Sark. With the help of my Grandfather, we spent a weekend putting it together and painting it. I was instantly addicted to model making, and have been to this day.

I've always pushed my personal boundaries in the hobby, teaching myself electronics so I could add LEDs and other features to kits, researching how movie props were made so I could recreate them myself and always exploring new materials and paints.

Eventually, my model making hobby expanded into Cosplay, where I used the skills I had learned in model making to create scaled up creations. This aspect of my hobby reached its peak in 2011 when I took the Champion title at Eurocosplay.

These days, I mainly build Gunpla, and similar Plamo style kits. The potential for customisation, whether it's adding LEDs or using a new painting technique, makes them the ideal kit type for me. I usually prefer larger kits, as they give the biggest canvas for my creativity, but I also love the smaller kits, and the challenge they bring adding my customisations.'

Alessio Cavatore

For nearly thirty years, Origins awards winner Alessio Cavatore has designed or co-designed many miniatures wargames, board games, card games and role-playing games. They were created either for his own company, River Horse, or for many other well-known publishers in the gaming industry, such as Games Workshop, Fantasy Flight, Warlord Games and Mantic.

Alessio alongside his colleagues Donal and Alice Bisanzio will be running game demonstrations of a tabletop wargame throughout the day using Gunpla called Robot Rebels. A great way to get some fun gaming action out of your models and Alessio will also be available for informal chats and signing autographs on anything fans bring along throughout the course of the event.

Robot Rebels is a fast-paced, easy-to-learn skirmish game that doesn’t require specific miniatures, designed to capture the energy and drama of mecha battles seen in classic Japanese anime like Mobile Suit Gundam, Evangelion, Macross, and The Vision of Escaflowne. The best news, you’ll be able to try Robot Rebels and lead your squad of giant robots to victory at Day of the Gundam 2025 - feel free to bring your own models to the table and join the mayhem!
