Gundam TCG Tournament

We’re delighted to announce that, in addition to having tables for beginners to try the card game, we will also be holding our own Gundam TCG tournament for experienced players in the Activities Room at Day of the Gundam 2026.

The tournament will see participants constructing and using decks from cards provided on the day. See the Deck Construction Rules section below for full details.

We’ll have 32 dedicated tables specifically set aside for this tournament, with a maximum of 64 players.

Registration Details

The fee to register and participate in the tournament is £20. You will receive 4 boosters as part of the ticket. (See Deck Construction Rules below for details.) Tournament tickets are available to purchase online through Gundam Mad using the link below.

Important: Entry to the tournament is separate from entry to Day of the Gundam 2026. You must already be a registered member/attendee for Day of the Gundam and must have a valid event ticket or member pass to gain entry into the venue. When purchasing your tournament ticket, please use the same name used for your Day of the Gundam registration so that we can match your tournament ticket to your member pass.

Tournament check-in and registration on the day will take place at the tournament organiser desk in the Activities Room.
All players must be in the venue and have checked in at the tournament organiser desk before the tournament begins.
The exact tournament start time will be announced closer to the event.
Online registrations are open now and will remain open until capacity is reached.
Should any spaces remain on the day of the event, on-site registrations may be available until capacity is reached.
All tournament tickets will be sent in the form of an e-ticket. Tournament tickets will not be sent before 1st June, so if you order before then and have not received it yet, you have nothing to worry about.

Tournament Structure

Maximum number of participants: 64.
This will be a Swiss-style tournament, with two stages to the tournament.
Stage 1: Depending on the total number of entrants, there will be five or six rounds. Each round will be best-of-1 only.
Stage 2: The top 8 entrants from Stage 1 will advance to the single-elimination phase, with each match being best-of-3. There will be Quarter-Finals, followed by the Semi-Finals, then the Final.

Swiss-Style Tournament Explanation

A Swiss tournament is a non-elimination format where participants are paired round-by-round against opponents with similar scores. This is designed to determine a winner without requiring every player to face everyone else.

The expected finish time is still being finalised and will be announced once the round timings and event schedule have been confirmed.

Deck Construction Rules

The following construction rules will apply:

Only cards provided on the day can be used in the tournament.
Each participant will be provided with a Sample Starter Deck, plus 4 booster packs.
Either 1 x Wing Sample Starter Deck, or 1 x Iron-Blooded Orphans Sample Starter Deck, will be provided to each participant at random. You cannot choose which Sample Starter Deck you receive.
The booster packs given to each participant will be 2 x GD02: Dual Impact and 2 x GD03: Steel Requiem.
There are no colour restrictions when building the deck.
You can include any number of cards with the same card collection/set number. This is located in the top right corner of each card, for example: GD0X-XXX.
Each Sample Starter Deck will come with a damage counter card and play mat.
It is not a requirement for cards to be sleeved, but participants are welcome to bring their own sleeves.

Prize Structure

Everyone who makes it to Stage 2, i.e. the Top 8, will receive a prize! The higher you place, the bigger the prize, with the Top 3 receiving the strongest prize bundles and 1st place winning our Grand Prize.

The 1st Place Grand Prize will include a sealed booster box of Gundam Card Game Freedom Ascension [GD05] when released, several limited-edition Gunpla models, and a collection of various mecha-based anime Blu-rays. The full Grand Prize bundle will be worth over £500 in total.

The prize distribution breaks down as follows:

1st Place: Grand Prize bundle worth over £500 in total.
Runner Up: Larger prize bundle.
3rd Place: Larger prize bundle.
4th Place: Prize bundle.
5th-8th Place: Prize bundle.

FAQ

Is the tournament entry fee included with my Day of the Gundam ticket?

No. The £20 tournament entry fee is in addition to your ticket to enter Day of the Gundam 2026. You must already be registered for Day of the Gundam and must have a valid event ticket/member pass to enter the venue.

Will there be a Judge?

Yes. A dedicated tournament judge will be present to oversee rulings and keep play moving. This is a community-run tournament rather than an official Gundam Card Game tournament, so rulings will be made using the event rules and the published Gundam Card Game rules as applied on the day. The Judge’s ruling is final.

Where will the tournament take place?

The entire tournament will take place in the Activities Room. On-the-day check-in and any available on-site registration will be handled at the tournament organiser desk in the Activities Room.
